Research Interests:
Dr. Rochon received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985. He is a experienced biomedical investigator, and over the years has gained considerable experience from a variety of medical studies. He has been an active collaborator in the fields of inflammatory bowel disease and human transplantation, leading to publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Immunology, Transplantation and elsewhere.
From 1994 to 2002, he was an Associate Research Professor at the Biostatistics Center of the George Washington University. He collaborated on a number of large, multi-center clinical trials under the direction of senior biostatistical investigators including Drs. John Lachin and Ray Bain. In July, 2002, he joined the faculty at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) as a Research Professor.
Dr. Rochon is currently serving as the Principal Investigator for the CALERIE Coordinating Center. This study, funded by the National Institute on Aging, is investigating the effects of calorie-restricted (CR) diets on the aging process. The primary goals are to gain knowledge on the effects of sustained CR on physiology, metabolism, body composition, and various risk factors for age-related pathologies. He is also serving as the Principal Investigator for the Coordinating Center of the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN), funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). This network is performing epidemiological studies into the genetic and clinical risk factors associated with liver injury caused by prescription drugs and herbal medicines. From 1999 to 2002, Dr. Rochon served as the Principal Investigator for the Coordinating Center for the Girls health Enrichment Multi-site Studies (GEMS), funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
Dr. Rochon has also served as the Principal Investigator for a research grant funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).Its purpose was to develop statistical methodologies for the design and analysis of longitudinal studies. Papers from this grant were published in Biometrics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society and elsewhere.
