IRES Application Process

Rolling Deadline: Submit your application at least three months before you'd like to travel.

Each year, we will accept up to four Duke graduate students to visit a partner laboratory in Berlin for approximately three months. To enable as many students as possible to participate in the program, each student may only visit once.

Applications should include the following materials:

  1. General application form
  2. Letter of support from the primary advisor
  3. Letter of support from the faculty member in Berlin. The letter should comment on the feasibility to complete the proposed training goals and what support will be provided to support the students completion of the training goals
  4. Statement describing the potential benefit to their research and professional development

All application materials should be sent to Dr. Susanne Haga (susanne.haga@duke.edu).

Applications will be reviewed by the Steering Committee according to transparent and standardized evaluation criteria similar to those used for graduate admissions, including grades, awards, publications, research experience and soft skills.
