Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HUB) is one of Europe’s premier research universities. It operates a highly-ranked Ph.D. program in the biological sciences and offers several weekly seminar series. HUB also houses the Integrated Research Institute for the Life Sciences (IRI Life Sciences), which will serve as the administrative home of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) grant from the DFG and as the administrative home and lead institution in Berlin for this IRES program. Association with IRI Life Sciences will provide visiting students access to outstanding research instrumentation and computational infrastructure no matter where their host lab is based.

Max-Delbrück-Centrum for Molecular Medicine
The Max-Delbrück-Centrum for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is one of 18 German National Research Centers of the Helmholtz Association, the largest scientific organization in Germany. It is home to 66 faculty and over 200 trainees. The MDC has outstanding central research facilities for genomics and computational biology. The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) is a new department established to integrate research into gene regulation with established biomedical research programs at the MDC. BIMSB moved to the HUB Campus Nord in late 2018, into a newly constructed research facility directly adjacent to IRI.

Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
The Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is the joint medical school of HUB and the Freie Universität. It is the top-ranked medical school in Germany and one of the largest research hospitals in Europe. Over 200 faculty are engaged in a wide range of basic and translational research. The Institute for Human and Medical Genetics at the Charité has a distinguished record of research into developmental disorders. In 2013, Charité and the MDC established the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), which focuses on translational medicine and is based in a large joint research space. The BIH has several new core facilities that provide access to state-of-the art instrumentation for genomics research and computational infrastructure.

Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics
The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPI-MG) is one of Germany’s premier research institutes. The intellectual focus is on genomics and genetics, with particular strengths in computational biology, gene regulation, and developmental genetics. It has outstanding computational facilities and a nationally-recognized genome sequencing core facility. MPI-MG operates a Ph.D. program in conjunction with the Freie Universität called the International Max Planck Research School for Computational Biology and Scientific Computing. MPI-MG is about 15 min away by public transportation from the three other Berlin institutions.
