Class Of 2018 Celebrates Commencement

The Duke Master of Biostatistics graduates from the class of 2018 with diplomas.

The Duke Master of Biostatistics program held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Chairwoman Liz Delong welcomed the students, family members and faculty.  Dr. Megan Neely, Director of Graduate Studies gave remarks. Several students received awards. Xingyan Wang was chosen by his classmates to receive the Student Leadership Award. He also was presented with the Overall Academic Excellence Award. The Outstanding Masters Project Award was given to Ganchao WeiRituparna Altner gave remarks as the class student speaker.

The University-wide commencement ceremony was held the following day at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.  Apple CEO and Duke alum Tim Cook gave the commencement address, exhorting the students: “No generation has ever had more power than yours, I urge you to take the power you’ve been given and use it for good.”

Of the 25 graduates, seven will now pursue a PhD in prestigious programs at Duke, Boston University, Penn State, New York University and University of Texas. Graduates have also already accepted a diverse range of employment in the top companies such as: Healthnet, PRA Health Sciences, GEICO and the Mitre Corporation. Other students have been offered positions in academic medicine at Emory University, Beaumont Health, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Vanderbilt University.
