Instructions for Optional Summary of Undergraduate Math and Statistics Coursework

Optional: As part of your application, you may upload an optional summary of your undergraduate- and graduate-level mathematics and statistics coursework. This is intended to help the admissions committee more easily identify your preparation in key quantitative areas.

We encourage you to include the following for each course:

  • Course title (as listed on your transcript; you may also include an informal title or clarification if useful)
  • Institution and term (e.g., "Tsinghua University, Fall 2022")
  • Grade
  • Key topics covered (e.g., convergence, metric spaces, linear models, etc.)
  • URL to official course description and/or course website
  • Primary textbooks used, if applicable, especially for analysis or probability
  • Optional, not expected: you may attach homework or exam questions that illustrate the level of difficulty

You may include both mathematics and statistics courses, particularly those relevant to biostatistics and statistical theory (e.g., real analysis, linear algebra, probability, mathematical statistics, regression, statistical computing, etc.).

This summary does not replace your official transcript, but serves to supplement it. While optional, submitting this document is especially helpful if:

  • You completed coursework in mathematical subjects with generalized titles such as "Mathematical Analysis" or "Advanced Mathematics"
  • You wish to clarify the depth or rigor of your training, especially in areas like real analysis, which is a strong predictor of success in our program

You may format this summary as a table, bulleted list, or paragraph form, whichever best communicates your background clearly.

Please save your summary as a Word Document or PDF before uploading it to the application portal.
