Dan Buckland, MD, PhD; Assistant Professor of Surgery and Assistant Professor in the Thomas Lord Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Hamed Zaribafzadeh, MS; AI Health Data Science Fellowship Program
This one-hour virtual seminar will describe the successful initial phases of implementing a ML-model into the clinical workflow in the Duke Department of Surgery and introduce the Laboratory for Transformative Administration (LTA). To improve Operating Room utilization the LTA designed and implemented a AI model that interfaces directly with the Duke Health EMR and provides a prediction of resource needs at the time the Surgeon indicates the need for surgery. We will further discuss our experiences with the current implementation pathway used within the Health System and the expected impact and next steps for the utilization model. This seminar is part of the Health Data Science (HDS) Program learning experiences, which focus on applications of machine learning and use cases in health.
