David Carlson, PhD, has assumed the role of director of graduate studies for the PhD Program in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
He began serving in this role on September 1, 2024, working alongside outgoing director Raluca Gordan, PhD, an associate professor in biostatistics and bioinformatics, who is leaving Duke in January 2025.
Carlson is an associate professor jointly appointed in civil and environmental engineering in the Pratt School of Engineering and in biostatistics and bioinformatics in the School of Medicine. He earned a PhD at Duke University in 2015 and joined the Duke University faculty in 2017. His research focuses on developing novel machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques that can be used to accelerate scientific discovery.
This integrative, multi-disciplinary PhD program trains future leaders at the interdisciplinary intersection of quantitative and biomedical sciences and brings together 55 faculty from 18 departments.
