Faculty Liz Turner has been appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) as a member of its Advisory Panel on Clinical Trials. PCORI is an independent, nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions.
Dr. Turner will join other members of the panel in applying her experience and expertise to help PCORI refine and prioritize the research it funds. She will also ensure that the research PCORI supports centers on the outcomes that matter to patients and other healthcare decision makers.
As an Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Global Health at Duke University, Dr. Turner leads the Research Design and Analysis Core at the Duke Global Health Institute. Over the past decade, she has led the design and analysis of more than 15 global trials, including both pragmatic and implementation trial designs. Her methodological research focuses on statistical issues in the design and analysis of clustered randomized trials, including stepped-wedge cluster randomized trials. Patient-centered outcomes is a consistent theme in her work and research.
Dr. Turner is dedicated to translating complex statistical concepts to a broader audience and to partnering with collaborators and research stakeholders to undertake the most relevant research possible. Panel members represent a broad range of healthcare stakeholder groups and perspectives, including patients, family caregivers, clinicians, drug and device makers and researchers, among others.
