The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics is excited to announce two recent leadership changes: Laine Thomas, PhD, has been named Vice Chair of the Department, and Ben Goldstein, PhD, is the new chief of the Division of Translational Biomedical Informatics.
Dr. Thomas and Dr. Goldstein began serving in their new roles on July 1, 2014.
Dr. Thomas is a Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics who joined the department and the Duke Clinical Research Institute in 2009. She serves as Deputy Director of Data Science and Biostatistics at DCRI. She is a leader in study design and development of methods for observational and pragmatic studies arising from scientific collaboration in the therapeutic areas of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, uterine fibroids and SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Dr. Goldstein is a Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics with secondary appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics and Population Health Sciences. He serves as the Director of Data Science for Duke AI Health and Associate Chief Data Scientist for the Duke University Health System. His research sits at the intersection of biostatistics, biomedical informatics, machine learning, epidemiology, and implementation science where he studies the meaningful use of electronic health records data for inferential and predictive modelling purposes.
Congratulations to Dr. Thomas and Dr. Goldstein on their new roles.
