Meet Bo Hu, PhD

Bo Hu, PhD, professor of biostatistics & bioinformatics, received a PhD in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006.


Why did you choose to join the faculty in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics?

Duke offers an outstanding scientific environment and the interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation fits seamlessly with my career goal. In addition, the move aligned well with family considerations, making Duke an ideal place for both professional growth and family life

Where were you working previous to Duke? What was your role there?

Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University, where I held the positions of Full Professor, Staff Biostatistician and Director of Scientific Affairs for the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

What is your approach to mentorship/teaching?

For both teaching and mentorship, I value active learning. I emphasize setting clear goals, and creating a supportive environment for open communication and long-term planning.

What are your research interests?

Clinical trial design, multimodal data integration

Are there any major research grants you have been a part of or are currently working on?

I am leading the data coordinating center for the Alliance of Randomized Trials of Medicine versus Metabolic Surgery in Type 2 Diabetes (ARMMS-T2D) Consortium and Rapid Reversal of Suicidal Depression: Comparative Effectiveness of ECT vs. KETAMINE Over the Lifespan
