About the Master of Biostatistics Program

The Master of Biostatistics program requires a total of 50 credits. 44 credits of graded coursework, a Practicum experience, a Proficiency Examination, and a Master’s Project, for which 6 credits are awarded.

Program Structure

  • First Year: Students complete 26 credit hours of required courses.
  • Second Year: Students take 18 credit hours including elective courses and complete the Master’s Project course (6 credit hours). The Master’s Project demonstrates the student’s mastery of biostatistical concepts and methods.

Non-Degree Option

Selected courses in the program are available to qualified Duke students who wish to gain specific skills without pursuing the master’s degree. Non-degree enrollment is granted at the discretion of the Director of Graduate Studies, requires permission from the appropriate course instructor(s), and is subject to prerequisites and class size limitations.
