Financial Support

Qualifying applicants to our Ph.D. program typically receive full funding, including tuition, fees, and a graduate stipend.  Funding for years three through five is through a traditional teaching assistantship, a graduate research assistantship, and/or a training grant.

Graduate School conference travel fellowships are available to students who pass their preliminary examination. For more information, students may review the conference travel fellowship application.

Students are encouraged to apply for competitive external scholarships. Additional information about Ph.D. support may be found at the Graduate School website.

Ph.D. Student Fees

Each academic year (as well as summers in which a student is either registered for a course or receiving a research fellowship) payment of the following fees must be made to the Graduate School:

  • Tuition

The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics pays for all fees for qualifying students during all academic years up to year five. The recreation fee is optional during the summer and paid by the student.  The transcript fee is paid only once by the student. Additional information about the cost of attendance may be reviewed at the Duke University Graduate School website.
